PM Nepal and team leave for US

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has left for New York, USA, leading a 24-member delegation to participate in the 64th General Assembly of the United Nations, Sunday evening.

PM Nepal and his team flew to Doha, Qatar at 8.30 pm, today on a Qatar Airways flight. The Nepali delegation will go to New York on Monday after an overnight transit in Doha.
Speaking to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), PM Nepal said he would raise the issue of climate change the US president during his visit.

PM Nepal is carrying a stone from Mount Everest as a gift to the US President as a symbolic gesture on the adverse effect of climate change on Mount Everest and the Himalayan region as a whole.

PM Nepal will address the UN General Assembly on September 23 and meet with heads of states of various countries during his visit.

He will also participate in a meeting of five-largest contributors to the UN peace keeping force called by US President Barack Obama. Nepal is the fifth largest contributor to UN peace keeping force.

PM Nepal will also address a programme, International Health Partnership initiated by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Nepal was selected to make a presentation on behalf of the Asian countries due to its feat in significantly reducing the child, maternal mortality rate despite the conflict.

PM Nepal will also address academicians and Nepali students at the Columbia University.

He will return home on September 28.
