Police ask for Red Light area in Kathmandu

Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu has recommended to the government to work out the necessary regulations and stipulate a Red Light Area in Kathmandu to curb sex related crimes.  Speaking at a press conference called to inform journalists of the the campaign Kathmandu police is launching to control sex related crime and illegal sexual activities in Kathmandu, Kathmandu police chief SP Ramesh Kharel said, illegal sexual activities and sex related crime would reduce a lot if a commercial sex was defined by some regulations and designated at some specific places.  Kharel also said, Kathmandu police had intensified operation against illegal sexual activities. It has keep some areas like Thamel, Sorhakhutte, Naya Buspark and Gongabu as hot areas and started keeping vigil in suspicious places.  Commercial sex is being operated in Kathmandu in the veil of massage parlours, dance and cabin restaurents, hotels and guest house and by taking an independent flat. 

Man Mohan Bhattarai to be CA member in place of GPK

Nepali Congress youth leader Man Mohan Bhattarai will become a new Constituent Assembly member in the place of Late Girija Prasad Koirala. NC parliamentary party decided to forward Bhattarai's name to the CA for the vacant position Thursday. 

Bhandari, Pokhrel, Bhattarai vie for vacant CA seat

One of the three youth leaders of Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Pokhrel, Man Mohan Bhattarai and Sunil Bhandari is likely to become a Constituent Assembly (CA) member to fill up the vacant position left by Girija Prasad Koirala.   Nepali Congress (NC) parliamentary board is meeting Thursday to pick up a new candidate as a Constituent Assembly (CA) member to fill up the position laid vacant after the demise of Girija Prasad Koirala. Top three leaders of NC, Sushil Koirala, Ram Chandra Poudel and Sher Bahadur Deuba have forwarded their own candidates to for the position of CA member.  Sher Bahadur Deuba has proposed Man Mohan Bhattarai, Sushil Koirala has proposed Sunil Bhandari and Ram Chandra Poudel has proposed Ram Chandra Pokhrel for the vacant CA seat. A central working committee meeting of the party likely to take place later this afternoon will approve the nominations after the parliamentary board picks up one of the three candidates. 

UNMIN mandate extended by another four months

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has extended the mandate of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) by another four months, Wednesday.  With the latest extension UNMIN will remain  in Nepal till September 15. Its current mandate is ending Friday. This is the sixth time UNMIN's term has been extended. The government of Nepal had written to the UNSC last week to extend the current mandate of UNMIN.  A meeting of the UNSC at New York, Wednesday, voted unanimously for UNMIN's term extension. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had endorsed extending the mandate of UNMIN.  While extending the mandate, UNSC also called on Nepal government to work with Maoist combatants "to agree and implement a timetabled action plan with clear benchmarks for the integration and rehabilitation of Maoist army personnel."
