Former PM Krishna Prasad Bhattarai calls for reinstatement of Hindu Kingdom; Parties irked
Former Prime Minister and founder leader of Nepali Congress Krishna Prasad Bhattarai has called for the revival of the 'Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal 1990' to avoid a constitutional void as it seems improbable that a new constitution will be drafted withing the mentioned deadline of May 28. Former PM Bhattarai issued a press statement Sunday and called for the revival of the 1990 constitution, saying the constitution could not live its full life despite being one of the best constitutions of the world. The 1990 constitution is based on a multiparty democracy with a constitutional monarch. Although, Bhattarai hasn't mentioned the term 'monarchy' clearly in the statement, the revival of the 1990 constitution means revival of monarchy, analysts say.
