CIAA directs transport entrepreneurs not to increase fare unilaterally

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has directed transport entrepreneurs not to increase fares unilaterally, Wednesday.

The Commission has directed the transport entrepreneurs to take fares stipulated on March 26, 2010 until the fares a revised legally by a mechanism comprising of representatives from the government, the entrepreneurs and the consumers.

It has further directed the concerned government bodies to monitor the transport entrepreneurs and ensure they are following the directives.

CIAA had called representatives of Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE), Ministry of Labour and Transport Management (MoLTM), Department of Transport Management (DoTM) and Consumer Welfare Forum (CWF) for a meeting on Wednesday following a complaint from CWF and reports on unilateral increase of transport fares.

There were reports that the transport entrepreneurs had unilaterally increased the fares in long routes by up to 13 percent and notified the DoTM in writing.

CIAA has directed the DoTM to publish notice in a daily paper and write to FNNTE asking them not to increase the transport fare.

It has also directed the department to install hoarding boards with transport fare-list in all major bus terminals and inside buses plying in the long route.

The Commission has further directed MoLTM to form a monitoring committee to find out if the transport entrepreneurs had unilaterally increased fares as reported.
