Two gangs clash over tender deal

Two gangs, one from Pokhara and the other in Damauli, have fought with each other over a tender deal in Damauli, this afternoon. Police have arrested some 12 persons from both the gangs. Police fired several rounds tear gas canisters and two rounds of bullet in the air to control the gangsters.

Over 50 students of nearby Satya Devi High School have been affected due to the tear gas. Some of them have been admitted to hospital.

Youths from Pokhara and Damauli had clashed over a tender of Irrigation Department worth Rs 45 million.

Getting tenders by threat and using gangsters is common place in Nepal, particularly in government offices.

Such incidents have also taken place in the past. Few months ago, there was a shoot out inside the capital's Tri-Chandra College among students over a tender deal on constructing a building in the college.
