TU calls student for talks; talks inconclusive

Tribhuvan University called representatives of student unions who submitted memorandum against fee hike for talks, Thursday.

The first round of talks held at TU today failed to reach any consensus. The talks failed after students asked for the decision on fee-hike to be revoked altogether, while TU officials refused to do so. TU officials proposed the student leaders that the fee-hike could be reduced to some extent.

TU has called the student leaders for second round of talks tommorrow. Nepal Students Union president Pradip Poudel said, they demanded for the decision to be revoked for now and form a fee-fixation committee with representatives from student unions.

TU had increased fees for undergraduate and graduate level by 1200 percent on Sunday. The fee for Bachelors level was increased from Rs 61 a month to Rs 500 a month and the fee for Masters level from Rs 70 a month to Rs 700 a month.

TU has argued the fee-hike was necessary as the running cost had increased by a large proportion. The fee has been hike after 18 years.
