Landgren asks PM Nepal to clarify govt's view on UNMIN

United Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) chief Karen Landgren has asked Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal to clarify the government's position on UNMIN, reports say. Landgren met PM Nepal at the latters' residence in Baluwatar, Thursday morning and asked his to clarify Nepal government's view on UNMIN's performance.

This was Landgren met PM Nepal's first meeting after Landgren returned from New York recently. The relation between the government and UNMIN has seen some turbulance in the recent days over the content of report on Nepal's peace process presented before UN Security Council.

In his mid-term report to the UNSC on the progress on Nepal's peace process UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon had mentioned a unity government would be 'desirable' in Nepal and expressed dissatisfaction over the slow progress in Nepal's peace process.

The ruling parties had taken it as an intervention to Nepal's internal affairs saying it was up to the Nepali people and political parties to decide the type of government. The government had written a formal letter to the UN on the same.

At the meeting with PM Nepal Thursday, Landgren clarified UN had no intention to intervene in Nepal's internal affairs. She also discussed about the UNMIN's term with the PM. It's term is ending in about 3 months.
