Former King Gyanendra Shah gets diplomatic passport

Foreign ministry has given a diplomatic passport to former King Gyanendra Shah, Tuesday. The ministry awarded a red passport (diplomatic passport) to Shah with a validity period of one year in capacity of former head of state.

Former King Gyanendra Shah had applied formally for a diplomatic passport through his aide and former principal secretary of the royal palace Pashupati Bhakta Maharjan.

Nepal government provides diplomatic passports to incumbet head of state, head of government, ministers, state and assitant ministers, special class government officers and former head of state and head of government.

This is the first time former King Gyanendra Shah has taken a passport after quitting the royal palace. The only foreign, the former King has embarked on after being decrowned last year, is his visit to India in February. He had not taken a passport then as a Nepali citizen traveling to India does not require a passport.

Although, former King Gyanendra Shah has not mentioned the reason for taking a passport, it is speculated that he is planning a foreign trip soon.

  1. Welcome to Australia! The land is cheap. You get one Acre of land in A$ 1.0 only. When the Nawaf of Hydrabad(India), he bought a huge land in Western Austalia and lived like a king of the land. Similarly, the former King Gyanendra can come to Australia and buy huge lands as the future investment.
