29 DSPs promoted to SP

The home ministry has promoted 29 Deputy Superintendents (DSP)s to the post of Superintendents (SP) of Nepal Police. Home minister Bhim Rawal approved the promotions as recommended by a promotion committee at the ministry, Thursday.

Among the promoted is Thule Rai, who was abducted by the Maoists during the conflict. The Maoists had demanded the release of their leader Dev Gurung in exchange of Rai's release. They had released Rai after the government released Gurung. Rai was abducted from Rukum on September 22, 1999.

Most of the promoted DSPs are of 1998 batch. Of them Rai and Amatya have already worked as acting SPs.
