Maoist students attack campus chief in Bhojpur

Cadres of the Unified CPN (Maoist) and its student union All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R) attacked chief of Bhojpur Multiple Campus Parvat Kumar Rai, Sunday morning, reports say.


A group of persons led by area secretary Insan and ANNISU-R district chairman Sunita Rai pulled out campus chief Rai from his chamber while he was talking with his colleagues at about 11 am, this morning and attacked him with rods, Khukuri and other weapons.




They left only after Rai collapsed, according to eye witness Uttam Singh Rai, coordinator of Education faculty at the campus.

Rai has sustained serious injuries on his head and body. He is undergoing treatment at Bhojpur District Hospital. There are more the 25 stitches on Rai’s head and body.

ANNISU-R district chairman Sunita Rai, vice chairman Navin Pariyar and secretary Dinesh Khanal have been arrested in connection with the incident, Chief District Officer of Bhojpur Baburam Khatiwada said.
Teachers of the college have condemned the attack and staged demonstrations demanding action against the culprits.

The Maoist cadres attacked Rai after the latter refused to resign as per their demand. ANNISU-R and Nepal Students Union, the student wing of Nepali Congress, had been demanding the campus chief Rai’s resignation alleging him of irregularities in appointing staff at the college.

NSU Bhojpur has issued a press statement saying it has no involvement in the incident.
