Maina Sunar’s father found dead in Banepa

Father of Maina Sunar, the girl who was murdered by army after taking her in custody five years ago, was found dead near Banepa, Kantipur daily reported quoting police sources.

Purna Bahadur Sunar, 51, was found dead on a gravel road in Budwal five days ago. He had gone for shopping in the morning, but did not return till late, according to Sunar’s wife. Sunar’s body was found the same day.

Sunar had been living in a rented room in Banepa with his wife and two sons after his daughter Maina was murdered five year ago.

The body has been brought to Kathmandu for post-mortem. Police is investigating further on the incident.
Maina Sunar was tortured and killed in Panchkhal army barrack after being arrested on February 17, 2004.

Police ask for Red Light area in Kathmandu

Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu has recommended to the government to work out the necessary regulations and stipulate a Red Light Area in Kathmandu to curb sex related crimes.  Speaking at a press conference called to inform journalists of the the campaign Kathmandu police is launching to control sex related crime and illegal sexual activities in Kathmandu, Kathmandu police chief SP Ramesh Kharel said, illegal sexual activities and sex related crime would reduce a lot if a commercial sex was defined by some regulations and designated at some specific places.  Kharel also said, Kathmandu police had intensified operation against illegal sexual activities. It has keep some areas like Thamel, Sorhakhutte, Naya Buspark and Gongabu as hot areas and started keeping vigil in suspicious places.  Commercial sex is being operated in Kathmandu in the veil of massage parlours, dance and cabin restaurents, hotels and guest house and by taking an independent flat.
