Govt adopts liberal education policy to reduce school dropouts

The government has adopted a policy to upgrade classes of students up to seventh grade by continuous assessment. They will not need to take the exams till seventh grade as per the new policy, the education secretary said.

SAFF women footballers return home

A team of Nepali women footballers that stood second in SAFF Women's Championship 2012 in  Colombo, Sri Lanka returned Nepal on Tuesday. Officials of All Nepal Football Association welcomed the footballers at Tribhuvan International Airport.  Talking to the journalists at the airport, Kishor KC, coach for Nepali team expressed sadness over the defeat in the final match. "Nepali team could not clinch the title though they did their best to win the match," he said. Nepal had lost 3-1 to India in the final match of the second SAFF Women's Championship 2012 played at CR&FC Grounds, Colombo on Sunday.

Former secretary Khanal returns to Kathmandu; says he will not take any govt post in future

Former finance secretary Rameshwore Khanal, who came to a sudden limelight after abrupt resignation from his post last week, has returned to Kathmandu after touring the mid-hill districts for some days. Khanal told journalists that he was determined not to take up any government posts in the future at a press conference organised at the Reporters' Club, Kathmandu Sunday. I am determined that I will not backtrack on my decision, said Khanal.   At the press conference former secretary Khanal said, he resigned as the leadership at the finance ministry was not happy with his position on the supplementary budget. Khanal clarified, he did inform the finance minister that he was going to resign.
