Fourth global NRNA conference kicks off

The fourth global conference of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has begun in Kathmandu with a slogan 'Nepalis for Nepalis', Tuesday morning.

President Ram Baran Yadav inagurated the conference amid a function at Tribhuvan Army Officers' Club, Bhadrakali. A brief cultural show and a welcome speech by foreign minister and deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala preceded the inaguration.

More than 500 delegates from 52 countries have come to participate in the three-day conference. NRNA has its chapters in 55 countries.

The conference will elect its new leadership. Three NRNs, Ram Pratap Thapa, Bhim Udas and Dev Man Hirachan have announced their candidacy for the post of the NRNA president.

Although efforts are on to select the new leadership by consensus, it has not been finalised yet. Udas and Hirachan have agreed for consensus, but have not agreed on the name.

In addition, various issues related to foreign employment, migration and remmittances, economic diplomacy, investment in Nepal, and constitution drafting, among others will be discussed in the conference.
