Red Sandalwood seized again

Police have seized a large amount of red sandalwood from Kapilvastu, Sunday morning.

Police, with support of Krishnanagar Custom’s officials, seized the sandalwood when some people were trying to transport it from India towards the Nepali side on a bullock-cart.

Custom officials have also detained the persons involved in the transportation of the sandalwood. The name of the arrested has not been disclosed.

Just a week ago, a truck-load of red sandalwood was seized in Jagati, Bhaktapur. Police had arrested some Maoist cadres with the sandalwood then.

It is believed Nepal is being used as a transit point to transport red sandalwood from India to third countries.
Last year, extensive Maoist involvement was revealed in the transportation of the sandalwood.
