Nepal rights watch dog not to take holiday during greatest festival

The central and regional offices of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will remain open during Dashain festivals in order to collect complaints related to Human Rights violations and monitor HR violation incidents if necessary.


A statement issued by the commission Tuesday mentions, NHRC officials will be present at its central office in Kathmandu and regional offices in Biratnagar, Janakpur, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi from 12 noon to 2 pm everyday during the Dashain holidays to enable the people file any complaints of HR violations.

Police ask for Red Light area in Kathmandu

Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu has recommended to the government to work out the necessary regulations and stipulate a Red Light Area in Kathmandu to curb sex related crimes.  Speaking at a press conference called to inform journalists of the the campaign Kathmandu police is launching to control sex related crime and illegal sexual activities in Kathmandu, Kathmandu police chief SP Ramesh Kharel said, illegal sexual activities and sex related crime would reduce a lot if a commercial sex was defined by some regulations and designated at some specific places.  Kharel also said, Kathmandu police had intensified operation against illegal sexual activities. It has keep some areas like Thamel, Sorhakhutte, Naya Buspark and Gongabu as hot areas and started keeping vigil in suspicious places.  Commercial sex is being operated in Kathmandu in the veil of massage parlours, dance and cabin restaurents, hotels and guest house and by taking an independent flat.
