Former Prime Minister and founder leader of Nepali Congress Krishna Prasad Bhattarai has called for the revival of the 'Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal 1990' to avoid a constitutional void as it seems improbable that a new constitution will be drafted withing the mentioned deadline of May 28. Former PM Bhattarai issued a press statement Sunday and called for the revival of the 1990 constitution, saying the constitution could not live its full life despite being one of the best constitutions of the world. The 1990 constitution is based on a multiparty democracy with a constitutional monarch. Although, Bhattarai hasn't mentioned the term 'monarchy' clearly in the statement, the revival of the 1990 constitution means revival of monarchy, analysts say. Bollywood Actress Manisha Koirala has revealed she is planning to get married soon, and that, too, with a Nepali boy in Nepal as she does not want to leave Nepal. Speaking at a face-to-face programme organised by Reporters' Club Nepal in Kathmandu on Friday, actress Koirala said, 'Now, I will marry soon and that marriage will be in Nepal, because I don't want to leave Nepal.' However, Koirala did not give any further hints about her marriage - if she had already chosen her partner or not. She does not have a known existing boyfriend in Nepal.

Gas supply, that has been halted due a strike by the gas dealers and factories since last week, will resume Wednesday after successful talks among the representatives of Nepal Oil Corporation, gas dealers and gas factories, Tuesday evening.   The gas dealers came to terms after NOC agreed to postpone by one year its plans to privatise itself with a Public-Private Partnersip (PPP) model.   The gas dealers, who initiated their strike demanding ample supply of LPG, had later added annulment of plans to privatise NOC.

Tourism Year 2011 has kicked off from Friday. People from various walks of life are taking out rallies from five different places in capital Kathmandu to mark the inauguration of the Tourism Year. Political parties will begin their rally from Rastriya Sabha Griha, tourism entreprenuers will begin their rally from Lainchaur, other businesspersons will begin their rally from in front of Nepal Academy and journalists and members of civil society and sportsmen will begin their rally from Dashrath Stadium.   All rallies will converge into a mass assembly at Ratnapark, where Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal will inaugurate Tourism Year 2011. At the occassion, representatives of various political parties will also sign a resolution not to organise any strikes during the Tourism Year, according to Prachanda Man Shrestha, CEO of Nepal Tourism Board.  

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the legislative-parliament has directed the government not to print the Machine-Readable Passports (MRP)s in India for security reasons. PAC issued such directive after seeking information from foreign minister Sujata Koirala and foreign ministry officials on MRP printing. PAC had summoned the minister and the officials after reports that minister Koirala is in mood to award the contract of printing the MRPs to Indian company Indian security printers through a cabinet decision became public. The cabinet is meeting Thursday afternoon.  The PAC has directed the ministry to award the contract to one of the four companies which had applied to it earlier. The ministry had cancelled the tender citing technical reasons few months ago.

The Annual General Meeting of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has begun in Nepalgunj, Thursday. President Ram Baran Yadav inaugurated the AGM amid a function in Nepalgunj this morning. Journalists had taken out a morning rally before this. FNJ general secretary has presented a organisational report of the federation this afternoon. The close-door-session of the federation is beginning later today.

Police raided various Guest Houses in Banepa and arrested 26 persons while having sex or in sex-oriented positions, reports say. Five couples were arrested from Chandika, Chandeshwari, Valley and Welcome Guest House of Banepa while having sex. Likewise, seven girls were arrested from Shiva Guest House, Dhaneshwar and three boys and six girls were arrested from Phoolbari Restaurent. The arrested are in the age group of 18 to 26. Police have said, they raided them after locals complained of sexual activities in public. However, it is illegal to arrest anyone having sex in mutual consent. Police in the recent weeks have been interfering in people's private life in the name of curbing indecent activities, too. Prostitution is illegal in Nepal. However, there were reports police even arrested mutual romantic partners from some hotels in Kathmandu recently. Likewise, in a worse case, few weeks ago, even married couples were arrested from some hotels in Pokhara.
