Trekking in Nepal

Endowed with diverse mountainous terrain and a varying climate, Nepal is undoubtedly one of the best trekking destinations in the world. Some of the most popular trekking trails (or rather area) are in Annapurana, Langtang and the Everest region. In addition to this, more ambitious treks can be organised in the areas of Dolpo, Kanchenjunga and Upper Mustang.

Shorter and easier treks can be organised anywhere. There are many short treks around Kathmandu itself. What makes Nepal one of the best areas for trekking is its topography, landscape and people. You don't get bored when you walk on the trails as the landscape keep changing. And the places are very beautiful.

Say, when you walk on a trail in Annapurna region, one moment (when you are near a river valley) you see terraced and gilded fields, with a gushing river below and a lush green forest above. Next moment (after trekking a few minutes to an hour or so), you see a village perched on a hillock, with traditional beautiful houses made out of mud and stone with slate roofs, painted white on the top and black below with windows and doors made of wood carved traditionally.

And then, suddenly you reach a Bhanjyang where you are greeted by a cool breeze. Turn back, you can see the trails or the places you came along and on the other side of the hill you can see another side of the mountain, another river valley, next mountain and trace the trail you would be walking next. Look up and you will see snow-white mountain ranges.

The people are welcoming, they greet you with a smile and always offer you any help required. From whatever point of view, health, recreation or vacation, trekking in Nepal is a great way to achieve it.

If you have some interest in ethnic cultures, you can opt for a cultural trek or even try and mingle with people along the way. Unlike in most of the developed countries where people are more reserved, people in Nepal are open and helpful. Try and speak to them, they will also speak to you. Although, most people can't speak good English, you can still communicate with them if you want.

If you are interested in flora and fauna, you can learn a lot while trekking to Nepal. Most of the trekking trails fall on either a National Park or a conservation area. There are many different types of plants, birds and animals. A skilled guide can tell you a lot about the flora and fauna on a particular route. Even better is a local. You can talk with a local where you stay overnight. Or, you can talk with a local porter, or a local guy walking on the same trail as you. They will tell happily about what they know. And who knows better about a land than a local guy.

You can also learn a lot about geology/geography. The landscape/topography that we have in Nepal in itself is unique. On the way, you come across various kinds of land formations, mountains, hills and hillocks, rivers, other water bodies. Quite a few things about which you can ponder over.
