Nepal will be without security bosses for four days

All highly placed security bosses of Nepal will be absent for the next four days with minister and state minister for home affairs, bureaucrats looking after law and order division and chiefs of three security agencies, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force (APF), and National Investigation Department (NID) going on foreign visits Saturday and Sunday.

Home minister Bhim Rawal is leaving for Singapore Saturday afternoon with Inspector Generals of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force Ramesh Chand Thakuri and Sanat Kumar Basnet, respectively, to participate in the 78th general assembly of International Police Organisation (Interpol) from October 11 – 15.

Minister Rawal and IGP Chand will address the Interpol assembly. Minister Rawal will return to Kathmandu on October 14, while the IGP duo will return on October 17.

Likewise, state minister for home affairs Rizwan Ansari is leaving for Beijing, China Sunday to hold high-level security talks with Chinese officials.

National Investigation Department (NID) chief Ashok Dev Bhatta, joint-secretary Jaya Mukund Khanal and under-secretary Ek Mani Nepal, who look after the law and order division at the home ministry will also accompany state minister Ansari.

The ministry will also be without a spokesperson for five days as Khanal is the spokesperson and Nepal is the assistant spokesperson of home ministry. The team will return home on September 17.

Security experts have said, it is a blunder for all security chiefs to leave the country at the same time. At a time when the government is preparing to launch its special security plan, the absence of security top brass could invite a disaster.

"Who will be responsible if something goes wrong at this time?" questioned a security expert.
